Florence is the capital of the Tuscany region in Italy. It is most well known for its Renaissance art and architecture. Its iconic cathedral displaying rich cultural heritage and architectural intelligence attract several tourists.
The best time to visit is from the month of April to July. I visited in April and was able to experience the Maggio Musicale Art and Opera Festival. The weather is pleasant before summer and many shops close in Aug due to the heat and holidays are declared. Winter in Nov /Dec is wet and most people avoid a trip during this time of the year.
What did I do?
I visited various tourist destinations along with finding on foot, various traditional restaurants with unique cuisines. The pizza is to die for. Following this, I visited The Florence Cathedral, which has a distinctive red dome and is a typical medieval cathedral. Another religious monument here is the Florence Baptistery.
Art galleries with Renaissance Art are a must visit. I found the Uffizi Gallery to be splendid and full of historic art and essence.
The Ponte Vecchio is a beautifully built bridge straight out of the movies and is lined up with jewelry shops that have a collection of exquisite models and a variety of jewelry.
I visited the Boboli Gardens, which host some beautiful sights and is a perfect place to sit down, calm down and sketch if you must. The green around the place immediately invoked a soothing feeling in me and I loved the place.
So go visit Florence and find yourself some Renaissance beauty along with some beautiful people. Florence is easily accessible through regular rail transport from any part of the country. If you are traveling from a European destination, you will need to take a connecting pass depending on the source. Further, for outside the continent, connecting flights will do the job.
