Porto, the second city of Portugal, is rapidly becoming one of Europe’s most sought after tourist destinations. Places to visit
Two of Porto’s most famous attractions which we visited are the Ribeira District and the Douro River. The Ribeira District is filled with ancient houses, numerous restaurants, bars and cafes are also classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Douro River, according to us enhances the beauty of the city and the boat tours are thoroughly relaxing.
When in Porto, how can we miss out on Port, it’s like going to THE LOUVRE and not seeing Mona Lisa. Porto is still maturing and bottled in the vast cellars located along the riverside. The Port cellar and Port tasting tours provide great insight into the traditional brewing process and also provide opportunity to taste some of the finest Port vintages.
Another major attraction of Porto is its beaches. We’re completely floored by the dramatic coastline of rocky headlands, powerful seas and vast sandy beaches. All it takes is a small metro ride from Porto to explore and experience it all. Coming back to the city’s nightlife, Porto did not disappoint on that front as well. The city is home to various restaurants, cafes and trendy clubs which cater to all kinds of tastes and preferences. These clubs and restaurants are generally open till sunrise, so one can fully enjoy the nightlife of Porto without running out of food.
How to reach Porto?
Visiting Porto is easy, as the city is served by the Porto Airport, which is modern and well organized, located 14 kilometers to the north of the city and is connected with metro, directly linking it to Porto. Besides the fare is also cheap, Porto also provides great value for money as it is relatively cheaper than most European cities. Food, accommodation costs and entry fees to all major tourist attractions are also very reasonable. Overall Porto is a destination that one should definitely not miss out on.
