The Pilanesberg National Park is the fourth largest national park in South Africa. Located on the eroded remains of an ancient volcanic crater which is one of only three such extensive craters in the world. The Pilanesberg National Park consists of numerous hills, wooded ravines and open plains. It was declared a park since 1979. Pilanesberg is a wilderness area in which many endangered species have thrived. The Malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve is South Africa’s fourth-largest reserve and covers about 75 000. Ecologically, Madikwe is better fitting to support wildlife than livestock, and within 6 years, over 10,000 animals were once again roaming the Madikwe plains in what is regarded as the largest game translocation exercise in the world. |
