Aberdares National Park

The Aberdares National Park is part of the Aberdares mountain ranges ( as high as 14,000 feet above the sea level) which slopes on the western side of the wall, adjacent to the Rift Valley. The eastern slopes, due to its contour and altitude make it favorable to the wildlife habitat.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park was declared Amboseli National Reserve in 2005. and is one of Kenya’s most prevalent parks because of the astonishing view it exhibits of the nearby Mt Kilimanjaro. It is one of the smaller game parks in Kenya. The Amboseli’s  vegetation ensures that the animals are easy to spot.

Lake Nakuru National Park

The alkaline lake lies on the edge of the Nakuru town and is about 100 miles from the city of Nairobi. The name Nakuru derives its name from Masai language, meaning a dusty place. Though it started very small covering only the lake and the surrounding mountainous features, is now expanded to provide a sanctuary for the black rhinos.

Masai Mara

The Masai Mara National Reserve lies about 5 hours drive from Nairobi City. You can also get here by taking a 45 minutes scheduled flights (fly twice each day). The reserve is about 580 square miles but the wildlife is far from being confined within the reserve boundaries. Named after the river Mara that crosses the park, and the Masai people who live in the region, is definitely the most famous reserve.

Mount Kenya National Park

The beautiful, snowcapped peak of Mount Kenya is the second highest point in Africa at 17,058 ft. Mount Kenya straddles the equator about 193 kilometers (km) north-east of Nairobi and about 480km from the Kenya coast. It is a very challenging and popular destination for trekkers and climbers.

Tsavo West National Park

If you have to combine the two Tsavo (East & West) National Parks then Tsavo should be one of the world’s largest game sanctuaries however of the two, Tsavo West is more popular than the arid East Tsavo. The two Tsavo cover over 8,000 square miles and are between the two cities of Nairobi and Mombasa.
