Arusha National Park is spectacularly set between the two huge volcanic peaks of snow-capped mount Kilimanjaro and rugged Mount Meru. With an area of 52 sq km, Gombe stream is Tanzania’s smallest national park,but one of the most popular, famous for its chimpanzees, being one of the few remaining places where they can be found in their natural habitat. Katavi National Park is 35 km of southwest of Mpanda. The Park is Tanzania’s third largest park and one of its most unspoiled wilderness areas. A great area to see a lot of crocodiles and hippos. Among the attractions of the often underrated Lake Manyara National Park are it’s superb birdlife, its elusive tree climbing lions and abundance of hippos which you can observe at a closer range here that at any other place. Mahale Mountains is one of the most remote and most beautiful national parks in the whole of Africa. The green forested slopes flow from the peaks to the white-sand beaches on the shoreline of the Tanganyika lake. Its about 75 miles away from Kigoma town and can be accessed by boat along the lake or by fly in. Mahale is one of the best location in the world for viewing chimpanzee . Mikumi National Park is located approximately 300 km west of Dar es Salaam, and is a popular destination for weekend visitors. The park lies within a flood plain bordered by the Uluguru Mountain range to the east and the Rubeho Mountains on the west and covers an area of over 3,200 sq kms. Ngorongoro crater is one of East Africa’s most visited destination. At about 20 km wide it’s also one of the most calderas in the world. It has an outstanding variety of animals and vegetation, including grasslands, swamps,f orests and rich bird-life. It is regarded as a natural wonder of the world (the 8th) and has been declared a World Heritage Site. Ruaha National Park is the second largest game reserve in Tanzania with 12,950sq km, and the world’s largest elephant sanctuary. The park has a spectacular scenery, with an abundance of wildlife, and one of the lesser visited in the country, keeping it an isolated, peaceful and unspoilt wilderness. Selous Game Reserve has an approximately 45,000 sq km, it’s the Africa’s largest reserve and Tanzania’s most extensive protective area. It has a large concentration of elephants, as well as buffaloes, wild dogs, hippos and crocodiles. It has a large number of birdlife and it one of the places in Tanzania you can sport the remaining black rhinos. One of the spectacular and unique events of the year is the Serengeti annual migration, which takes place heading north to south October November and back south to north between the months of April and June. This has been described by many as one of the greatest wonders of the world. There is no fixed time for migration; the animals migrate according to rainfall patterns. |
